Our Incredible Summer: 116 Libraries, Four States, and So Many Happy Roars
What a summer it’s been.
From the first library visit in May all the way through the last stop in July, our dinosaurs have been on the road almost non-stop — meeting new friends, posing for photos, and bringing a little prehistoric magic to story time. When we look back at everywhere we went, it’s honestly hard to believe: 116 libraries across four states (Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, and Florida) welcomed us into their communities this summer.
It started gently enough in May, with a handful of visits to libraries across Mississippi and Louisiana. But by June, things really picked up speed. Some weeks saw us crisscrossing entire parishes and counties, popping up at three or four libraries in a single day — mornings in one town, afternoons in the next, evenings somewhere else entirely. Our dinosaurs (and the humans wrangling them) covered a lot of ground.
July brought the tour to its peak, with visits stretching from small community libraries in rural towns to bustling regional branches in bigger cities. No matter the size of the library or the size of the crowd, the reaction was always the same: wide eyes, big smiles, and a whole lot of excitement when our dinosaurs made their entrance.
Summer reading programs are such a special thing. They keep kids engaged, curious, and excited about books during the months when it would be easy to forget about the library altogether. Getting to be part of that — even for just an hour or an afternoon at each stop — is something our whole team looks forward to all year.
Meeting so many librarians, parents, and kids across four states reminded us just how much heart goes into these summer programs, town after town. Every single one of those 116 libraries put in the work to make their summer reading events special, and we were so grateful to be invited along for the ride.
